Intraoperative Neuromonitoring

Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IOM) is considered as an integral part of many surgical procedures, especially where nerve tissue may be at risk such as spine and or brain tumor surgeries. As a result, neurological symptoms such as loss of strength in arms and legs, paralysis of the face, impairment of swallowing and speech may develop. Introperative neuromonitoring is based on continuous monitoring of intact nerve tissues during surgery and, if necessary, providing the surgeon with immediate information about developing neurological damage. In the light of this information, the surgeon can change the surgical maneuver.
